Ni

A living room in sand and gold — panelled walls, a grey marble return and an arched brass screen opening onto the dining.

The brief

A living room that opens straight onto the dining — the brief was to divide the two without building a wall, and to give the television a setting rather than a blank surface.

Designer's notes

The media wall is treated as classical panelling in sand beige, stopped against a grey marble return so the screen sits inside a frame instead of floating on plaster. A fluted walnut console runs the width beneath it and takes the whole media load.

The divide is a screen of gold arches on a walnut frame — open enough to keep both rooms in one view, closed enough that the dining reads as its own place. Mirror inside the arches doubles the light coming off the marble.

Coffered ceilings with recessed cove lighting carry the same rhythm across both zones, which is what finally makes the two rooms feel like one apartment.
